Introduction
Earlier this year, I wrote about a 100-day streak. I never thought I would reach that number. And all too soon, I have reached a 200-day streak. I am glad that I have reached that number. I am also grateful to have picked up small habits and lessons.
These lessons extend beyond language learning. Hence, without much ado, here are three key takeaways from my experience:
Lessons
1. Focus on Consistency
Consistency is not about perfection; it’s about showing up every day, even if it’s just for a few minutes. Consistency in turn acts as fuel to move you ahead every day. When you commit to showing up regardless of how you feel, you build an identity as someone who follows through. That identity becomes your greatest asset no matter your station in life.
2. Do It Now
Procrastination can be a major obstacle to anything worthwhile. I usually practice my lessons on the Duolingo app as one of the first things in the morning. This approach helps me stay on track. It avoids putting it off until later in the day. At that point, I will forget.
3. Time Flies When You’re Having Fun
The 200-day milestone seemed daunting at first, but before I knew it, the time had flown by. Duolingo’s gamification techniques have certainly helped. Streaks, leaderboards, and reward gems have certainly made the experience fun. Enjoying the journey has certainly helped me stay motivated and committed. Consequently, when you are engaged in an activity, have fun with it and enjoy the experience.
This journey of visiting the Duolingo app and doing at least one lesson a day for 200 days has taught me the importance of
- Consistency
- Doing first things first
- And making the most of the time available
I would urge you too to learn or apply these skills to pertinent areas in your life. Hopefully, I get to write a post on getting to 300 days in Duolingo.
Wish me luck!
