Everyone has an interesting take on about this top, that is concentration, music and programming. My opinion is this; you cannot listen to music at all times whiles programming. There is a time for everything, a season for rain and a season for sunshine. This subject area is no exception.
So when do you not listen to music ? That is when you have to concentrate the most. You know it has been proven through studies that music actually takes away a part of your concentration. So to totally concentrate on a new concept or devise an algorithm to a problem, do not listen to music.
When do you listen to music then? In my humble opinion, that is when you have to do routine work which does not require any or much concentration. After all it can get really boring when you have to listen to silence and work away. You might concentrate at that moment but the feeling of loneliness quickly sets in and the length of time in which you can program quickly shortens. There have been periods when I have been able to program the entire day just on listening to my favorite songs. On one occasion, I kept postponing this website I had to do. When the deadline was the next morning and it became a question of now or never, I ended up doing the website in a few hours, listening to my favorite songs.
Well that is my take on the subject, how do y’all feel about it though?
